how long do brain swooshes last?

I just stoped taking paxil because i can’t afford to renew my perscription (no insurance). My swooshes feel like they start in my brain and then wave through my whole body. I’m crazier than a March hare, so really need my meds. What will happen when i start taking them again in like a month from now? I hope I don’t hang myself, or do I? Suicide is only funny to those you leave behind.

Omg ! This is what I have been feeling for over the past week. It has been really freaking me out. It feels like a huge chemical rush , seizure type thing. I hate it. I’ve been taking meds for over 15 years as well. Paxil was first given to me when I was 15. I have been on trazadone and Lamotrigine now for 3 years. I just started taking a different brand of Lamotrigine. I wonder if that is what it is…. It’s a terrible thing you both are going through this, but it’s good to know I’m not alone when it comes to this brain swoosh thing.

I get the brain swooshes as well. I have tried to describe them to my doctor but to no avail. I’ve had test after test but everything came back normal. I was referred to a neurologist but haven’t gone yet. I’ve been taking antidepressents for over 15 years now. Until I found your post, I thought I was going crazy. It makes sense because they happen when I am late taking my meds. or when I accidently take 2 in one day or change “brand” name. Thanks for your post. It’s made me feel alot better. I thought it was something very dangerous and it freaked me out.

Hi DJ,
Yes. The dream-state is not from Paxil. That is from anxiety still effecting you. Paxil is like any other foreign chemical to our bodies. Alchohol and refined sugar could also be called “poison”.
It is meant to be used to help you and then to be weened off of.
Also, Paxil may not work for all people.
As soon as you find an anti-anxiety med that works for you then you must start reading and learning about how you process your thoughts and your perceptions.
I wish all the best and hope that you find a way to change perceptions and find your way back to realize how perfectly you were created and how perfect you still are.

I think you are way off. I have been taking paxil for a year and recently started suffering from derealization. If you don’t know what that is, it’s a constatnt feeling of being in a dream state. This medication works wonders but it is also poison. The long term effects last MUCH longer than you have described. I work in business maangement and this medication has greatly effecte dmy concentration, ability to focus and manage my team.
